The Drizzle of Her Thoughts

I am just like him, he is just like my synonym

When I’m excited, he always quickly reacted

My life reminds me a missed dream, his interest unfolds like a tidal stream.

Friends for me are passing clouds, but his charisma shows no bounds

I’m like slow drizzling rain and he busts like a morning sun shine

My thoughts swing back and forth in dilemma and his actions appears like an enigma.

I’m surrounded by many with attitude and he appears to be lost in Solitude

I’m grounded in reality with a mind of explorer and he is always looking like a Crazy wanderer

I love wearing some exotic cloths of fashion and he loves writing with Passion

My mind always racing to reveal that love is fertile for which he unfolds himself with an artistic style

My Life passes leaving behind the beautiful moment and his always clasp for another enjoyment

My mind is controlling when the heart is revealing but his every action and move are sizzling.

The shadow of his presence is always with me and his wait for the glory arrived with a glee

Within him the memories of the time is like a stream and within me I felt that I am just like him

Associating Belief systems and cultural practices to Academics

From childhood some common rituals, practices, beliefs are hard wired into our brains. Some of these practices are beyond the proof of science. Even those with extra ordinary capabilities in science and technology follow certain ceremonies that are still beyond the reach of human cognition. One such phenomenon is seeking blessings from God before a launch of satellite or starting a major and complex projects spanning across the globe.

When we are suffering we look for solace in practices that cannot be proven by science and we take great pains to seek the blessings or visit far off crowded religious places to just get the blessings we need. Come Rain or Shine we are so determined to follow the rituals.

When we look this from a scientific angle we see the best human characters such as determination, focus, will to overcome obstacles, patience and all those best practices that can make anyone highly successful if same are followed in academics or career.

A major effort is going on in reforming education system across the globe. To name a few prominent personalities in educational reform are Bill gates  https://www.gatesfoundation.org/Media-Center/Press-Releases/2010/04/12-Foundations-Commit-to-Education-Innovation-with-US-Department-of-Education

, Khan academy https://www.khanacademy.org/  , Facebook Zuckerberg https://chanzuckerberg.com/ ,  Indian Government sponsored national skills development programs  http://nsfindia.org/,  Massive Online Open courseware (MOOC) programs  and the list goes on.  If we search online we can find organizations, corporate houses, foundations all working to reform education system.

I felt everyone is missing the last mile effort in their Noble intentions of reaching out to every kid on the planet. That is creating curiosity, love, blind faith, solace and all those characteristics that I described above which we follow without questioning when it comes to religion, culture, heritage and whatnot other than scientifically proven methods.

What I wish to bring to attention to all those great pioneers of educational reforms is to align their process, practices and subject matter to bring the same extra ordinary characteristics we show when it comes to all the practices I mentioned above into academics and corporate best practices.

A great research is needed on deeper understanding of how even a very common person exhibits extra ordinary human characters when it comes to religious practices, cultural and belief systems. That insights should then be ingrained in to our educational practices.

Also I think by aligning our education system, syllabus, skill enhancement programs to spirituality and to harmonious living with nature, will bring extra ordinary success not just in making our children the best but also saving our planet from disintegration because of our behaviour and practices till date that will lead us just to destruction.

It is time that we align our Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education more in tune to Nature’s way of handling the Planet’s resources. Our living standards should not be measured by materialistic gadgets we have but how well we are integrated with the nature around us and how well our gadgets are aligned to nature.

What do you think?  Complement and enrich this thought process with your comments and suggestions please.

Where there is a WHY there is a WAY

“The ‘why’ of what we do is much more motivating than the ‘what,’ we do.

When we are young we don’t really care to chart a course of action of what we really want in our life or where we really want to go. We just know that we need to go to school or college, make friends, study or have fun and pass out. If we are Lucky enough we get into job via Campus recruitment or thru some competitive exams whether we like it or not. All of these are familiar to most of the students.    Those are the golden days where we enjoy watching movies with friends, post photos on Facebook, study together or do something that we know really well. We never question “why” we do what we are doing daily.    We are in a comfort zone and we don’t care much to plan or plot a particular journey or reach a particular goal that is unknown to us.  We won’t know the meaning of “Vision” or what “Disruption” to our daily routine means.  Very few students move out of comfort zone, from daily habits, from the known life and experiment with things, think differently, work hard to reach great goals,  do something different than their friends or classmates do. They are charting an unknown path and at every step of learning they stop, re-evaluate and recalibrate their course of action and finally they will find a WAY for leading a life not just living another day that is just like yesterday for many others.

“Vision” implies you have a view of exactly where you want to go and you chart a course of action plan accordingly, like plotting a journey on a map, a straightforward road with no distractions, roadblocks or alternate routes.

Others just move forward and they don’t form any idea how to lead a life until a problem makes them to think. That is the time self is constructed and that is the time most of them take a course of action and follow.  That is the time WHY leads to find a “WAY” out of the situation. For some of those who don’t ask themselves “WHY” early on they may end up with doing something they don’t really want to do whether it is their subjects or life  or career.

So my friend every day you should question your routine with a WHY and you will realize that you need a WAY to better your life. Better life with best practices is what my vision is for skillsnest.

Facebook

The life was serene and the routine sans any excitement

The days are spent with friends and family with commitment.

That day happened to be somewhat different.

A friends request to join the fun made the mind indulgent.

Registration was a breeze and adding friends known and unknown swift

The learning and watching the updates made time to drift.

The comments, pictures, videos, updates never stopped streaming

The browsing, reading and commenting is the only thing that was happening.

The mind was roaming across the continents like a floating ship.

Joy, envy, sad, happy, hopelessness, loneliness, anxiety the spectrum of emotions started sinking deep.

Breakfast is a jiffy, lunch is delayed but the comments, gossips, likes and pictures never stops

Days turned into months, months to years, single friends to universal friends, life is now a dreamer’s paradise.

No time for sports, no time for family, no time for real friends and priorities are kept aside.

Facebook with you the feelings are mixture of delight, arise, demise, despise, disguise, divine, mesmerize, terrorize.

The exercise to log out can be felt as a sacrifice, compromise, and paralyze

And People hooked up to you can only fantasize

There are no words left with me to emphasize

Now or never. You decide your fate

If you’re young and ambitious and driven, don’t run from the challenge, run towards it. If you’re terrified of learning something new, go find a way to learn and master it. When you are a student and young you have loads of energy and enough time for learning as much as possible. You won’t stay young for ever and student life won’t stay with you for ever. You spend so much time having fun during college that you miss this vital point, that once you are out of college you are on your own to find a job and succeed in career. Campus interviews may give a job for some but that is the worst job with low pay and high pressure to handle. Those students who are smart enough realize the value of time and work towards their goals early on and once they are ready they also look for jobs they like to do in LinkedIn , twitter and Facebook other than campus interviews.

Life is full of temptations and distractions. When you are young you will have more opportunities to waste time, money and your youthfulness.

Start using your mind on what matters most for your life and for your family.Fate is not decided by anyone. It is you who can decide what is best for you and your family.  Time is precious and need to be spend wisely.  One of the best practice you need to develop is to check how you spent your day and what value you derived from all the activities you did during the day. Spending time on  Facebook, twitter or games or chatting or going to movies should be restricted otherwise it will  only add more junk in to your precious mind.  Networking with professionals , spending time to know yourselves , your strengths, your weaknesses and becoming mindful of all your activities will give you enough mental strength, knowledge and courage to find what you love to do for your career. Positive habits help you with clarity of thoughts when you need direction and guidance to succeed in life. Think of your parents, teachers and friends who you should trust for guidance and work hard to learn skills needed for you to succeed.  You may not love it while you’re going through the learning phase, but you’ll carry that learning and success with you  for ever. Once you achieve what you are aspiring for then you will have wonderful life. May be you will be  visiting exotic places and working on some wonderful and challenging assignments.

In order to have quality life, good food and good life you need to work for  it and  prove that you are eligible for good life.

I worked for that and I succeeded and i want you to succeed too.

You can start with small positive actions such as reading for a hour a day something new, doing yoga /meditation for a while etc and as days pass by they become your habits and you will be in a position to control your life and lead a life rather than living a life.

Similarly for getting rid of bad habits you should start with small attempts and then slowly  get rid of that bad habit  completely after some time.

Please do comment your feedback and suggestions.

Failure is not final

During the year of 2006-2007 I was working on some great projects for companies such as Rolls Royce in Sweden and Companies in US travelling between these countries and to India where my family moved. I was so involved in the projects that I did not see the Recession trends that are happening in US economy and did not realize that it will impact our work. 2007 year was worst in US corporate history with many employees laid off. That was tension filled days and every day there were news about employees laid off or company’s closing down. Nortel telecommunication is one such company that closed its operations and many brilliant people are laid off. The people who lost jobs are some of the most brilliant and have potential to start their own enterprises.

Me and one of my good friends had an idea of bringing these laid off people to a single platform and allow them to share ideas so that it can translate to new opportunities for them and new companies can evolve.  So we started a website and outsourced website development work to an Indian company. We did not bother to check the credentials of the company and the company did not give us a good site to start with and we failed badly to start our company in the right way.  We failed to capture that opportunity of starting our own company in US

I know “trying” is more important than “failing”. And when I do make mistakes, I use them as learning experiences, asking, “What did I do wrong, and how can I do it better next time?”

In our life we fail many times. We hear many failure stories of people around us. Some are love failures. Some fail to get jobs, Some failed to learn Languages, Some fail in their jobs and some failed to have good health and some failed in running a start-up company well.  If you look back into history there are so many who failed but have risen to high levels of success.  Apple computer Steve Jobs is one such person.

Failure is not final. It is an awkward, uncomfortable, anxiety-filled portion of your life; it is not your whole life. It isn’t who you are, it’s what happened to you, and once you get that distinction, then you realize, “I can change that. I can come back. I can do again.”

Don’t try to hide your mistakes. Admit them, and then learn and grow from them. When our attitudes are right, failure actually helps and improves us. It gives us a chance to correct our mistakes and sometimes makes us Humble.

Looking back on our experiences allows us to integrate them into our present time, allowing us to act with a little more wisdom .

So when you come across the fortune of failure don’t think that it is fatal or final. It is just one positive step in the direction of successful path that lay ahead to you my friend.. Keep trying and do your best. Let your quality work decide your fate

Here are some Quotes / stories to inspire you

Abraham Lincoln said “Success is going from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm.” And he was a man who knew defeat. He was born into poverty. The only education he received he acquired himself. He failed in business, and he was defeated numerous times before becoming president of US

“When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don’t adjust the goals, adjust the action steps.” –Chinese quote

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” Winston churchill

“Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.”  Jim Rohn

William A. Ward said, “Failure should be our teacher, not our undertaker. Failure is delay, not defeat. It is a temporary detour, not a dead-end street.”

Successful leaders don’t avoid failure. They “handle” it –successfully.

The bottom line is that “failing to try” is the greatest failure anyone can experience. If we don’t make the attempt, we cannot succeed.

Measure your happiness, How your face looks at 60?

We all want to be Happy. Do you agree? Then read this and it will make you happy.

In this digitally connected world we are  becoming heavily busy and miss the opportunity to analyze and introspect ourselves and  what makes us happy .  Most of us are so busy checking our emails, socializing with friends on Facebook , twitter and other sites, spending time in movie halls or working towards our goals and don’t have time to take a snapshot of day’s events and judge how we reacted to each event or situation that happens to us during the day.

We have a choice to be reactive or be creative,  but most of the time we spend days, months and years in a reactive mode by attending to our daily chores. We don’t think much about the routine we perform everyday and get used to the daily grind. Due to that we slowly stop thinking that things can be done in a much better way and our day can be more productive by questioning our daily routine and how we perform it. We just need to become more creative and focus on improving our daily routine. The net result of improving our quality of life leads to some spare time so that we can use the same  to reflect inwards and check what actions, incidents and events during the day makes us Happy and which ones makes us Sad. By introspecting about our selves deeply,  helps us to improve our happiness levels for the rest of the life.

We have technology to assists us to monitor our day’s events, happenings , our moods and experiences towards such events and happenings. By tracking our everyday living we can get rid of things that makes us Sad or ignorant and improve and strengthen our practices that makes us Happy. Introspecting and self analysis of our behaviors helps us tremendously in improving our mental abilities and physical fitness.  Make sure you spare an hour everyday before sleep to analyze the day’s events and how you reacted.  Which action of yours made you feel happy , helped in enriching you and which one is neutral and which one made you Sad. By doing that everyday you will start finding a pattern about how well you are shaping your life.  Remember the saying

“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.” -Charles Swindoll

Checklists regarding passwords

Many websites requires us to register in order to use their services or products such as ebay, amazon, ticket booking sites etc. Many of us already registered on various social websites such as facebook,  linkedIn, youtube and the list goes on depending on what websites you go. Most of us already have email accounts such as gmail, hotmail, yahoo mail. In all these cases you have to remember the passwords that you used on each site. After some times it becomes difficult to remember passwords. So let’s see how we can simplify this problem. Many of us also use the same password on all the services we access online. This makes easy for hackers to go into our important accounts. Avoid easy to guess passwords such as “password”, 12345 , your names etc..

1. Select a word that you can never forget. Some examples are your close friend”s name,  singer name,  actor names or color or parent, or lover or something that you like the most. For example let me select a word  ‘SoftTouch’ . Then let’s say you want to register at www.nature.com. Now what I can do is add the first or last three digits from nature to my most remembered word. Now my password will be ‘SofttouchNAT’ or “SofttouchURE’.. To make it safe from hacking or stealing by others now I might add a special character to the password. In the above example I can make my password as ‘SofttouchNAT1?’ by adding a ‘1’ and ‘?’ mark

Remember to select your most memorable word to be of length more than 6 digits so it will be safe from hacking.

2. Another simple way to remember password is jumbling your word with numbers or special characters. Let’s say from above example ‘Softtouch’ I can add 123 in between such as ‘S1oft2touch3’

This makes it difficult to predict your password.

3.Let’s say you love a song so much that you know each word of it so well.  If you have to change password every two months or so this technique will help you to keep going by using a word from the song as your password with a mixture of other characters to make it safe as above.

4. Use two level authentication so that when someone access your account from other computers the service ask you for verification. Here are more details about it for your gmail account. Step 1. Your password. 2. Using the Google Authenticator app available for Android, iPhone, and BlackBerry, 2) via SMS, or 3) through a voice call (meaning you could even use a landline if you didn’t have a cellphone—basically the call would read off the code to you).

Even facebook allows you to have two step authentication to protect you from hackers…

5. You can use password generator services such as Lasspass , keepass, 1password

Remember there are other ways of remembering passwords. You just need to make use of your creative brain.’

http://idtheft.about.com/od/preventionpractices/a/Passwords.htm

Good luck with passwords.

Are you on Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest and other social sites? Then read this.

According to a study we spent lot’s of time on Facebook and other social sites to drive away boredom, for interpersonal communication and self expression. Most of the content on Facebook does not add any value because we are not seeking information but just trying to express ourselves. Facebook or any social website is bad for students or many of the working employees. Our brain is built to think of  ourselves (our goals, studies, career etc) and work hard towards achieving success but the brain is also wired to seek recognition , pleasure and fun. When the Brain is free(most of the time when you are doing routine work)  it looks for pleasure and fun. The brain’s favorite past time is thinking of friends, movies, celebrity’s,  fun or other people. The craving to interact with people, get recognized  made Facebook and other social websites successful.   Facebook and other social websites are built to cater to our inner feelings of wanting to get recognized (seeking friends, building our online reputation and our desire for  people to click LIKE button on our posts) .  Social media has become so rewarding and addictive and makes our brain weak and we forget to focus on building our career’s or preparing for the crucial exams.  It is very hard to control our impulse and this pleasure seeking brain makes it more hard for people to focus on what is important for life and waste many hours online seeking pleasure or recognition.  The following is a extract from  Forbes magazine article

““Facebook has had a huge impact on the social, emotional and cognitive development of young people,” says Steyer, an expert on media and children’s issues, who is concerned about how social networking affects children and teens’ brain development. “It’s time to have a serious discussion about this.” Steyer founded and runs non-profit educational group Common Sense Media and is working to kick that discussion into higher gear with his new book “Talking Back To Facebook: The Common Sense Guide To Raising Kids In The Digital Age.”  http://www.forbes.com/sites/kerryadolan/2012/05/17/heres-a-completely-different-reason-to-be-skeptical-about-facebook/

The above facts are confirmed by a study conducted on students who are failing in studies. Here is the link for more details on the facts http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2009/oct/08/poor-grades-linked-too-much-socializing/?print

Simple ways to become smarter

Remember the richest man on the planet Warren Buffet’s   philosophy   quoted by Mary Buffet and David Clark in ‘The Tao of Warren Buffet ‘, “You only have to do a few things right in your life, so long as you don’t do too many things wrong.”‘Let see what few things can make you smart.
  1. Walk. Instead of riding a motor bike or car and polluting nature try walking/Bicycling more if your work or studies are within 3 to 10  KM radius. While walking make sure you are trying to find something new on the route. Look at the sky, try listening to the sounds of  birds or focus to see if you can find rhythm in the noise around you, watch the shops, advertisement boards (bill boards) , people or anything that your eyes or ears can catch. Learn something new. Change the route. Don’t use the same route you take every day. By going on a new route you will be more attentive and can learn or feel something new. By not sticking to routine you can learn a lot and become much smarter
  2. Exercise: Physical fitness is very important factor.  Without a fit body or peaceful mind you cannot achieve success or reach your goals. The old saying “health is Wealth” has become so important in today’s digital world where millions of people are killing time and become obese (Fat ) and inviting disease by just sitting in front of computers browsing Facebook or YouTube videos for hours together.  By regular physical exercise, Yoga and meditation your brain is creating BDNF (brain-derived neurotropic factor )  that helps you to stay smart.
  3. Sleep: Maintain fixed times for when you eat and when you sleep. It is very important that your body gets the recommended 7 to 8 hours of sleep and make sure you have a fixed time for it. Half an hour before sleep think of the problem or a burning issue you have to solve that day and could not derive an answer. Our brains remain working while we are sleeping and by next day morning you may find a solution to your problem. So sleep will not only keep your body healthy but helps in solving some unsolved issues during the day and you are wiser today then yesterday.
  4.  Don’t stay in comfort zone.Look back at your daily routine.  We don’t use mind for brushing our teeth, taking bath or going to work or class because we are doing it every single day. That means we are in comfort zone.  That makes your brain dull since you don’t need to use your brain for daily routine whether it is work or going to class or doing daily chores. You should make sure you do something new on a given day. Learn to fix your bike, learn music , learn a new art. Never remain content with what you know. Share knowledge with others ; that forces you to learn new things to remain relevant. Make a promise to yourself that every day you will be going to learn something new. Make sure to keep your promise and you will be surprised with what you can do.  One example : want to learn English? Everyday learn 3 to 10 words;  build a sentence using the words and save the same in a word document. Next day just revise the previous words and continue with the new words you come across this day. One good habit you should get is reading English newspapers.  The habit of reading is a great asset. It helps in learning language and gives tremendous boost to your general knowledge on world’s affairs.  Recently one of the student took an adventure of bungee jumping and tested his nerves. The event will make him bolder and now he can carry the experience of that sport for life and do something more interesting in life leaving behind the comfort zone.  Here is the link of his adventure https://www.facebook.com/praneet.kandarpa/posts/384951774875430
  5. Trust yourself and your talents:  Many of us have hidden talents for something. Some may love playing a guitar, some love to race motor bikes, some are good in writing software code and love it, and some may be good in fixing a bike. Cultivate the habit more and more even in spite of hurdles from other. You may have an idea that many of your family or friends may call as stupid.  If you believe in yourself and in your idea then just go forward in spite of hurdles. Just focus in mastering what you want to achieve. The same people who ridiculed you , or laughed at you will come back to praise you once you succeed with your efforts.  Ultimately the focus is be smart and achieve great success in life by living a. healthy and happy life.

So now you know how simple it is to become smart.   If you are distracted by too many things or too much to do in a day then watch this funny video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yc57X0j_UwM

Story telling clock, Floating solar grids, Liquid electricity

A guy named Mike Bodge realized that every second some on twitter is mentioning about what time it is while tweeting something. By mining the time and what is told Bodge developed a clock called Chirp clock that tells you a mini story (a tweet) every minute. With this twist a dumb time clock becomes a story teller of what people are tweeting every second. The time will be displayed based on where you are on the globe and stories or tweets will be running in the background. When you are alone or bored this time piece becomes your story teller every second. Check out this cool idea in action at  below links

Floating solar grids

While most of the solar energy is generated by panels that are sitting on vast areas of land , water that covers 1/3rd of the planet was lying waste until Solaris a Israel based company came up with an idea of floating solar grids in waste water treatment plants. The idea can be used in other places such as wastewater ponds, sewage treatment pools, dams, and reservoirs also. Solaris came up with this idea by accident. They are trying to solve a problem of concentrated solar panels heating up fast and in order to cool those down they realized the new idea of floating solar grids on the water surface. The water evaporated will cool the grids and also generates electricity while floating on the water surface. It is so beneficial to develop solar systems to be on water than on land since land is not available for huge solar plants to be established while we have vast oceans lying around us. With a combination of ocean thermal energy, solar and wind energy this idea can generate a viable business for enterprising business people. Get to know more from the following links

Talent cannot be hidden

I was reading a telugu news paper and came across an article mentioning about Geetham students going to NASA to  build a device to mine special materials from Moon surface. I felt very happy and pleased to know that in the world of Facebook, twitter , movie culture there are students who are working towards reaching outstanding goals in their life and in turn raising the nations talent levels. MY best wishes will always be with them. I know we have many hidden gems in our student community with brilliant ideas. In the form of supporting them  i strive to bring some of the best from across the world to enrich students thru this blogs’. This blog is to let you all know that Intel conducts  science talent every year. I’m pleased to say that the first prize this time went to 17 year old Nitin Tumma for doing research on breast cancer. Here  is the link

Free earth quake notice in your mailbox. Forecasting our future made easy

If you are interested in receiving email alerts on earth quakes before hand and you are interested to know for your own geographic region (say India ) , you should use the  U.S. Geological Survey agency free service. The USGS website says that information for U.S. earthquakes is generally available within 2-8 minutes but for earthquakes outside the U.S., it may take up to 20 minutes to report the activity. You need to register and create your profile and choose the area you want notifications. For registration and step by step guidance follow this link below https://sslearthquake.usgs.gov/ens/

There are twitter and Google earth notification of earthquakes from all around the world . Check them here https://twitter.com/#!/USGSted  and http://earthquake.usgs.gov/learn/kml.php but it is not specific to your region alone.

Google just came out with a new disaster notification service to alert and also help during disasters using its google maps. Check more details here http://www.google.org/publicalerts

Forecasting: No one can predict future. The idea of future thinking helps to make better decisions today.  So with help from the people from across the world we can predict to a certain extent  what our future looks like.. Foresight engine designed by “Institute for the Future” is able to predict micro futures (small amounts of correct future predictions) by allowing people from across the globe to participate in its gaming like challenges. This Foresight Engine game experiment enabled to quickly   track thousands of answers to questions such as “cure neurological diseases” . The challenge to cure neurological diseases , sponsored by the Myelin Repair Foundation, attracted 3,000 ideas from 400 players with ideas ranging from mobile clinical trials to “public knowledge gardens.”

Facebook , Ebay, Google and big data companies going green

According to http://www.datacenterknowledge.com/archives/2011/04/16/facebook-installs-solar-panels-at-new-data-center/   Facebook has built a 100 kW solar panel array, which will produce 204,000 kilowatt hours of solar power per year, next to its data center.  Greenpeace plans to launch a report at  http://event.gigaom.com/greennet/ event called “How Dirty Is Your Data?” which it explains as examining the “energy choices of Facebook and its IT peers.” At Green:Net Google and Yahoo will discuss their green data center plans.

For those electrical and electronics students here is some more interesting GK in your area of study.

Acccording to a MIT study in 2009  16,000 servers used by eBay are thought to use 60,000 MWh per year. Forty thousand servers used by Akamai are thought to use 170,000 MWh per year. For those that forget physics class, 1 megawatt (MW) is 1,000 kilowatts (kW). More details of this and other subject matters please click the following link.
