Facebook

The life was serene and the routine sans any excitement

The days are spent with friends and family with commitment.

That day happened to be somewhat different.

A friends request to join the fun made the mind indulgent.

Registration was a breeze and adding friends known and unknown swift

The learning and watching the updates made time to drift.

The comments, pictures, videos, updates never stopped streaming

The browsing, reading and commenting is the only thing that was happening.

The mind was roaming across the continents like a floating ship.

Joy, envy, sad, happy, hopelessness, loneliness, anxiety the spectrum of emotions started sinking deep.

Breakfast is a jiffy, lunch is delayed but the comments, gossips, likes and pictures never stops

Days turned into months, months to years, single friends to universal friends, life is now a dreamer’s paradise.

No time for sports, no time for family, no time for real friends and priorities are kept aside.

Facebook with you the feelings are mixture of delight, arise, demise, despise, disguise, divine, mesmerize, terrorize.

The exercise to log out can be felt as a sacrifice, compromise, and paralyze

And People hooked up to you can only fantasize

There are no words left with me to emphasize

Let’s not do it better , Let’s do it different

“If I had an hour to solve a problem and my life depended on the solution, I would spend the first 55 minutes determining the proper question to ask, for once I know the proper question, I could solve the problem in less than five minutes.”

― Albert Einstein

Recently I started paying attention to connect different comments posted on Facebook to see if I can come up with a different insight and experiences that are different than routine. On Facebook I saw postings of joy and relief when exams are completed and students planning different activities to enjoy holidays before next semester starts. One was excited to go to Mumbai and some going back to their native cities and towns to hit the malls and cinema theatres. I saw posts from professionals who are planning of having trips to exotic places. I watch comments, likes flowing into photos posted on the face book. One of my friend posts about the songs he likes, another posts photos with beer cup in his hand.

My observations is that when we go to a farmers market we ask our mind questions related to food and when we are watching cricket game   in stadium we ask questions about the game to our mind such as where the fielding players are standing and what the scores are and who might win. We don’t usually think asking our mind  how to cool our tension with a nice and fresh fruit from a vegetable market when we are in a crowded cricket stadium or how to prepare for our next exams.

Our mind is processing thoughts and giving us answers to questions that we ask. The questions that you are asking are what drives your behavior and is the key for your success in getting better at everything you love to do. By combining the fun and excitement of game with a healthy drink of fruit juice instead of junk food makes your experience more memorable and keeps you healthy from nervous breakdowns but you did not ask you mind how to do that before going to the game.

We can maximize our fun, experiences, find new possibilities and enrich our lives if we can think of different things that can be done by asking the right question to our mind.  So if you are having holidays and want to have fun or great experience ask your mind what are the new options you have other than the predictable things you do during a holiday.   This is what is called an innovative mind set is. This kind of asking the mind, the right questions enriches your life with better experiences and may lead you to more opportunities that you have never imagined possible. I always ask this question myself at the end of the day “What is that one thing that you did differently today?”  The key to innovation is to connect unrelated dots from different things to come up with new experiences, new possibilities and new opportunities.  Good luck for a “ better life with best practices” (My company’s tag Line and vision)

How to export email Id’s from facebook to excel .csv format

Most of the “export email id apps”  on Facebook won’t work so don’t use them for exporting email ids of your friends.  The simplest way of exporting your friends email id and other contact information is to use your Yahoo email id. Use the following steps.

Login to your Yahoo email Id  and go to CONTACTS Sub tab beside INBOX in your yahoo email.

Click on facebook import contacts to your Yahoo account.

Once the email id’s appear in your yahoo contact list you can export them to excel sheet in the .CSV (comma seprated) format and then export them to your other email accounts using this link https://login.yahoo.com/config/login_verify2?.src=ab&.done=http%3A%2F%2Faddress.yahoo.com%2F%3F_src%3D%26VPC%3Dtools_export

Note: The above method works when Yahoo account is NOT Linked to Facebook account. If your yahoo account is already set to LINKED ACCOUNT in Facebook then go to Facebook Application settings  remove “Yahoo Contact importer” and  try.

This will only download the email address, the phonebook in Facebook is still not exposed to external apps.

Fortunately, it will only import friends and their address if that friend has given permission to see their email address in their privacy settings in Facebook.

Relationship status update , plastics from sugarcane and corn starch

Social media has connected us to the universe of friends known and unknown. Not only that but technology and social media is changing our cultures and affecting our relationships. Want to know what matters most in relationships in today’s well connected world. Then check out this cool graphic at http://blog.lab42.com/the-relationship-status-update

A company is using biodegradable plastics derived from corn starch and sugarcane to make plastic bottles. When these used bottles are fed to mycellium bacteria the material is consumed by the bacteria. Hope this method of making plastic from corn starch and sugarcane becomes popular all over the world. We can avoid the real plastic from petroleum products polluting the planet. Know more from here
